Student Events at 2010 NABT Conference - Minneapolis, MN

The 2010 NABT Conference is planned for November 3-6 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, MN! See http://www.nabt2010.org/ for more details.


The following conference events are specifically designed with student member interests in mind. We hope to see you there!
  • NABT Student Symposium - This symposium, sponsored by the NABT Graduate Student Committee, will include separate break-out sessions for pre-service teachers and future faculty aimed at helping a diversity of student members realize their full potential as future (or current) biology educators and/or researchers. Details on date, time, location, and speaker topics will be posted as soon as they become available.

  • Vernier Student Travel Award - Student members presenting biology education research at the 2010 NABT Conference are eligible to apply for a travel award sponsored by Vernier. This award is not intended to cover all expenses related to attending the conference, but will aid in covering some costs. Please download, fill-out and email an application to emw2n4@mail.missouri.edu by September 15, 2010. Be sure to include your first and last name in the application file name.   • Student Social - Meet up with other student members of NABT in a relaxed environment for socializing and networking after a long day of meetings. Date, time, and location TBD.

  • 4-Year College/University Section Reception & Poster Session - Come join the four-year college/university educators and students in an informal gathering. A poster session will be held in conjunction with the reception. Thursday (Nov. 4), 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Location TBD.


Other conference events that may be of interest to NABT student members include:
  • NABT Research Symposium - Selected peer reviewed biology education research papers that apply to all biology educators will be presented. The recipient of the Four-Year Section Biology Research Award will also be featured during this time. Thursday (Nov. 4), 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Superior A.

  • NABT BioClub Reception - The NABT BioClub had a great year, with over 40 clubs being launched at high schools and community colleges in both the United States and Canada. Help make 2010 even better by joining other BioClub Advisors for this special evening reception and celebration. Everyone is welcome, so come meet your colleagues and learn how to start a BioClub Chapter at your school. Thursday (Nov. 4), 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Location TBD.

  • 1st Timers Breakfast - If this will be your first NABT Conference, this is the place to be! We invite you to learn more about the association and the events of the Conference over a complimentary continental breakfast, learn some helpful Conference “tips” to make the most of your experience. Our thanks to Howard Hughes Medical Institute for making this breakfast possible. Thursday (Nov. 4), 7:15 - 8:15 am, Regency Room

  • 2-yr Section Breakfast - Join the members of the Two- Year/ Community College Section for breakfast and a discussion of the sections activities in 2009. The Section Business Meeting will occur immediately after the breakfast and all two-year/community college educators and students are welcome to attend. Friday (Nov. 5), 7:00 - 8:00 am, Location TBD

  • 4-yr Section Breakfast - Attention all college and university educators and students! Get to know the Four- Year College/University Section over breakfast. Join us as well for the Section Business Meeting and a special presentation of the Four- Biology Teaching and Biology Research/Teaching Awards. Friday (Nov. 5), 7:00 - 8:00 am, Location TBD

  • 2-yr Section Reception - All Two- Year/ Community College educators and students are invited to meet and greet their colleagues at this informal reception. Share stories, learn what’s happening in undergraduate education, and join one of the fastest growing sections at NABT! Friday (Nov. 5), 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Location TBD.
